Powered multi tools FAQ
Are powered multi-tools safe to use?
Yes, powered multi-tools are safe to use when operated correctly. Make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines. You’ll need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves, when using multi tools or indeed any other power tools (we stock everything you'll need to keep yourself safe here) and ensure the tool is in good working condition before each use - a careful visual inspection will usually suffice, but you will also want to make sure the tool is PAT tested as often as is necessary.
Also:
- Secure the work area: Ensure the material you are working on is securely clamped or held in place, so it doesn’t slip.
- Avoid Loose Clothing/long hair: Wearing loose clothing can be dangerous with power tools as you may get caught in them, also be sure to tie any long hair back for the same reason.
How do I maintain my multi-tool?
Proper maintenance is essential to keep your multi tool functioning (and, more importantly, operating safely) for as long as possible. Hear are some general pointers, although be sure to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific tool you have:
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the tool to remove dust and debris, which can otherwise interfere with normal functioning.
- Lubrication: Apply lubricant to moving parts if needed, in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspection: regularly check the tool, including the attachments, for any signs of wear or damage and replace parts if you need to do so.
- Storage: Store the tool in a dry, cool place to prevent rust formation, and ensure it’s stored securely so that it won’t fall from a height, or receive damage from anything falling on it, for example.
