What materials can a pipe cutter cut?
Pipe cutters are versatile tools, designed to cut through a variety of materials. They are commonly used for cutting pipes made of materials such as:
- Copper
- Plastic
- Steel
- Aluminium
It’s important to note that the specific type of pipe cutter may vary in its capabilities. For example, some pipe cutters are specifically designed for cutting copper pipes, while others can handle a wider range of materials. We recommend checking the manufacturer's specifications to ensure the pipe cutter is suitable for the material you intend to cut.
How to use a pipe cutter
Please note the below guide refers to handheld, rotation-based pipe cutters, not plier-style tools.
- Ensure the pipe is clean and free of any debris or burrs. This will help the cutter glide smoothly and reduces the risk of damage occurring.
- Place the pipe cutter around the pipe at the cutting point and align the cutting wheel with the pipe.
- Gradually tighten the cutter around the pipe to secure it in place.
- Slowly rotate the cutter around the pipe, applying gentle pressure. Continue rotating until the cutter has gone around the pipe fully.
- Once the cutter has made a full rotation, you may need to tighten it further and rotate it a few more times to complete the cut. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as this might make the pipe deform.
- After the cut is complete, carefully remove the cut piece of the pipe.
